Pre-Licensing consists of the specific education that is required by each state’s real estate commission in order to obtain a license and begin practicing real estate.

Salesperson Pre-Licensing Requirements

18 years of age
Complete and pass the 60-hr Principles of Real Estate Course
Register for and pass the PSI Virginia State and National Exam
Get fingerprinted and have a state-wide criminal history check completed.

For Veterans:

Eligible honorably discharged military veterans since 1993 may register for no-cost pre-licensing training at NVAR. This program applies to November classes only.

This 60-hour program satisfies all educational requirements for obtaining a salesperson's real estate license in the Commonwealth of Virginia. TEXT BOOK NOT INCLUDED but can be purchased at the NVAR Realtor Shop.

Course Meets: November 1, 4, 5, 7, 8, 12, 13, 14, 15, 18 & 19
The following dates will meet from 9am - 12pm: Nov 5, 8, 13 & 15
Last day of class exam will be given from 10am - 1pm

CANCELLATION POLICY APPLIES UPON REGISTERING FOR THIS COURSE. Cancellation fee is $50.00. No exceptions.

Broker Pre-Licensing

Want to become a broker? NVAR can help. To become a broker in the state of Virginia, you must:

Be a licensed agent for 36 out of 48 months consecutively
Complete 180 classroom hours of real estate broker pre-licensing courses approved by the VREB (Broker Appraisal, Broker Finance, Broker Law, Broker Management)
Pass the PSI Virginia Exam for Brokers

Renewal of Salesperson and Broker Licenses

Renewal of Salesperson and Broker Licenses
Most licenses expire two years from the last day of the month in which they were issued, as indicated on the license. One exception is the concurrent broker license, which expires on the same date as the original broker license. All active brokers and salespersons are required to complete no less than 8 hours of coursework through classroom, correspondence, or other distance learning instruction, during each licensing term.
