What Do Executive Orders 53 and 55 Mean for Realtors®?
04/03/2020
Under the current
Executive Orders
, people are still allowed at this time to move about to conduct real estate business. We continue to encourage all interactions, including showings, open houses, and transactions, to take place virtually.
Executive Orders do not require you to carry documentation related to your purpose of travel, according to
Virginia State Police enforcement procedures
. Realtors® who do wish to download a copy of their real estate license to their smartphone or tablet may do so via
Merits
.
While Governor Northam’s Executive Orders do explicitly name some “essential businesses,” the orders do not prohibit non-essential businesses from operating.
Real estate is a professional service. While not listed as “essential,” professional services are not required to close.
Businesses that continue to operate should utilize telework as much as possible.
Professional services that remain open must adhere to workplace guidelines established by federal and state authorities related to sanitizing practices and social distancing. Non-essential businesses must adhere to the 10-person maximum for gatherings, including those related to real estate transactions.
