Fairfax – Home sales and prices in Northern Virginia climbed, with buyers undeterred by looming interest rate increases. Homes remained on the market an average of just 32 days, about 16 percent lower than last May, according to sales data about the Northern Virginia Association of Realtors® footprint of Arlington and Fairfax counties, Cities of Falls Church, Fairfax and Alexandria.

The Northern Virginia March housing New-Under-Contract numbers are nearly 18 percent higher than one year ago, new contracts with a contingency are up 1 percent and new pending contracts are up 6 percent, reports the Northern Virginia Association of Realtors®.

With mortgage rates still a bargain for now, as the new administration gets its sea legs, 1,110 homes sold in Fairfax and Arlington counties as well as the cities of Alexandria, Falls Church and Fairfax. Posting a 10 percent increase in sales, compared to this region’s 1,007 homes sold in January 2016, begins the year on sure footing.
