Consumers Think it is Important for Buyers to Have Representation

03/18/2024

Changes in the real industry have inspired brokers and agents to reimagine ways to demonstrate their value to consumers. Bright MLS conducted research to develop a set of resources that brokers and agents can use to communicate their value to homebuyers.

The industry needs more information about what consumers understand regarding the home-buying process and what they need from an agent.

The recent Bright MLS study found that 76% of buyers agree with the following statement: “When you buy a home, you should definitely have someone who represents your interests during the whole process.”

One participant stated, “Because the process can have its challenges, I’d rather have someone with experience helping me.”

One important way to break down the complexity of the home-buying process for a consumer is to clarify each of the many steps agents take throughout the transaction. Resources such as 179 Ways Agents Who Are REALTORS® Are Worth Every Penny of Their Compensation (as well as 105 More Ways) can be helpful in reinforcing your value to consumers.

The study also suggests that homebuyers are concerned about the financial impact of buying a home without representation, with one participant stating, “It's important to have professional help so you don't make a huge financial mistake.”

The Bright MLS study demonstrates that consumers recognize the importance of representation in the home-buying process and the potential consequences of losing such agency relationships. Now more than ever, it is important to continue demonstrating the value Realtors® bring to buyers and sellers alike.
