The Northern Virginia Association of Realtors® (NVAR) serves as the voice of real estate in the Greater Northern Virginia region. What is a Realtor®?
Realtor® is a trademarked term meaning you are a member of the National Association of REALTORS® (NAR). All Realtors® must have an active real estate license. NAR operates off a federated structure, often referred to as a three-way-agreement.
This means any individual who wishes to become a Realtor®, must join through a local Realtor® association and affiliate with the relevant state and national associations as well. These fees are typically collected by your primary local Realtor® Association.
NVAR New Realtor® Membership Pricing for September
*Broker and Appraiser licensees will pay the same as Realtor® Membership.
New Primary
$1,239.25
*October proration, renewal owed every September 30.
Primary members will pay the local, state, and national dues to their Primary Association. This is prorated monthly for new members.

NVAR Dues: $345.00
Lockbox Service Fee: $10.00
NAR Dues: $195.00
NAR Public Assess.: $90.00
VAR Dues: $252.25
VAR App. Fee: $197.00

New Secondary Out-Of-State
$954.25
*October proration, renewal owed every September 30.
Secondary Out-of-State members will pay the local and state association dues and will not need to pay the national dues as that has already been collected through their primary association.

New Secondary In-State
$505.00

Secondary members in-state will only pay the local NVAR dues as their state and national dues have already been collected through their primary association.

Brokers
Brokers are also real estate licensees but generally have a leadership role in their firm. Brokers manage transactions and sometimes oversee other licensed real estate professionals.
How to Join NVAR as a Principal Broker:
1) Fill out and send a New Firm Application to
membership@nvar.com
2) Submit an Online Application (same rate as Realtor®
membership)
*If you are an Associate Broker, please simple do step 2 above. Please note that each member can only have one brokerage associated with your member record.
Code of Ethics
Realtors® are held to a higher ethical standard than licensed agents, and must adhere to a Code of Ethics.
Realtors® have a “Board of Choice,”, meaning that if your principal broker is a member of multiple different Realtor® Associations, you can choose which one you would prefer to affiliate your membership with (as long as you are licensed to practice real estate in that state).
Service Provider Membership
NVAR is a community of real estate professionals. This is why we also offer Service Provider Membership to any company who works in the real estate industry and agrees to hold themselves to a high standard of excellence. There are many benefits to Service Provider Membership, including digital presence on our website, invitation to all attend all Association networking events, and more. *Please note that Service Provider Members cannot hold an active Virginia Real Estate license with DPOR.
