Types of Transfers
There are various types of transfers that an NVAR member might need. Whether you are looking to transfer your association membership, brokerage, or something different, NVAR has got you covered!
About
A Letter of Good Standing (aka Dues Waiver) from your current primary Realtor® association is always requested when transferring from one association to another. This letter verifies that you are an active Realtor® and that you comply with all association rules and bylaws for conducting business. Once you obtain this Letter of Good Standing, it can then be provided to the association you are transferring to.
Transferring from Another Association to NVAR
You may upload your Letter of Good Standing when filling out your online application. The Letter of Good Standing will relay to us if you have already paid your Virginia REALTORS® dues and/or your National Association of REALTORS® dues, if you have taken orientation, and more. It is important to input your current NRDS number on the application! Please note that NVAR’s fiscal year runs from October 1 to September 30 each year. You can view the pricing proration calendar here. If joining NVAR as a new member, please allow two business days for your online application to process; at which point you will be sent a welcome email from our Member Services Team.

Note About SentriLock
Your SentriLock account generally resides with your Primary Association. If you would like to activate a SentriLock account with NVAR, please complete the application here.
Please allow for two business days to process. After your application has been processed, you will receive a welcome email from SentriLock to setup your pin and password.
Whether you are transferring from one brokerage to another or terminating your NVAR membership, please have your Broker fill out and sign the Brokerage Transfer Form here.
Please note that you will first need to update your new brokerage with DPOR if you have not already done so. This is a multi-purpose form that lets NVAR know how we can update your record to reflect the most accurate member status and information. Once filled out, please email the form to membership@nvar.com for processing.
SentriLock lockboxes at NVAR are considered personal property and can therefore be transferred to any other SentriLock user. Please ensure if you plan to sell or gift your lockbox to a new owner, to provide them with a Bill of Sale. This Bill of Sale should include name, NRDS ID, date, and serial number of the lockbox. Any NVAR member can initiate the transfer process to another NVAR member by first logging into SentriLock.com.
How to Transfer Ownership of a Lockbox from One Agent to Another:
1. Initiating the Transfer: Original Owner
- Log in to the SentriKey Real Estate app or website.
- Locate the lockbox serial number and initiate the transfer.
- Select the new owner from the available agent list.
- Submit the transfer request.
2. New Owner Takes Ownership: New Owner
- Launch the SentriKey Real Estate app.
- Navigate to the “Take/Remove Ownership” option (usually within the hamburger menu in the upper left).
- Scan the QR code on the back of the lockbox.
It is recommended to open the key compartment and shackle to ensure ownership has successfully been completed.
