How to Access Historical Market Statistic Data

02/01/2022
Every month, the Northern Virginia Association of Realtors® reports on home sales activity for the NVAR Region, which includes Fairfax and Arlington counties, the cities of Alexandria, Fairfax and Falls Church and the towns of Vienna, Herndon and Clifton, with data provided by Bright MLS and ShowingTime.

Did you know NVAR provides historical data? shoprealtor_icons client

The historical data spreadsheet includes a breakdown of monthly and year-end market stats going back to 2000. The information includes total average sales price, total units sold, and average prices by home size and type, among other data points. Such data is provided for the following jurisdictions: NVAR Region, City of Alexandria, Arlington County, City of Fairfax, Fairfax County, City of Falls Church, Loudoun County and Prince William County.

Where does the Historical Market Data Come From?

The data is extracted from information released each month by Bright MLS through MarketStats by ShowingTime. Beginning in 2011, new calculation methods were used by ShowingTime to arrive at the monthly numbers. Monthly data for 2010 and prior years may therefore not match those years on the current ShowingTime site, however the year-end data for those years has been updated to reflect the ShowingTime data.

This historical data can provide useful market insight on both month-to-month and year-over-year trends.
