Be A Part of the Regional Housing Equity Plan

By Victoria Milbourne

The Fairfax County Government and the Fairfax County Redevelopment and Housing Authority are partnering with surrounding jurisdictions and the Metropolitan Washington Council of Governments (COG) to recognize racial inequalities in the housing market. This identification will be done through the creation of a Regional Housing Equity Plan, also known as a Regional Analysis of Impediments to Fair Housing Choice. To effectively create this plan, they must hear the voices within the community. Diverse experiences, perspectives, concerns and ideas are all valued and important to identifying and resolving equity challenges that occur on a neighborhood level.

COG will be hosting three workshop sessions to begin the dialogue on Housing, Equity and Race: Fair Housing in the DMV Region. Workshop participants will engage in discussion on the history housing and race. Additionally, participants will share their real-life experiences to convey the challenges and inequalities that still exist throughout the Virginia, Maryland, and DC region. These sessions will help real estate agents get a better understanding of how they can combat inequality in housing.

The sessions will take place on:

July 14, 2021 (6:30p.m. – 9p.m.)

July 22, 2021 (6:30p.m. – 9p.m.)

July 31, 2021 (9:30a.m. – 12p.m.).
