Mission
The mission of the Professional Standards & Arbitration Committee is to promote and uphold professionalism within the membership, in accordance with the Code of Ethics, to elevate the business of members and to protect the Realtor® brand. Professional Standards & Arbitration Committee members are responsible for serving on the hearing panels that are convened to review either ethics complaints or arbitration claims that have been forwarded by the Grievance Committee for a formal hearing.

Hearings are scheduled primarily on Thursday afternoons (and other days as needed), and five Professional Standards Committee members are assigned to each hearing date. The Grievance Committee members are required to complete an annual training to be eligible to serve on this committee. The members of this committee, following a full due process hearing, are charged with issuing a determination based upon the facts and evidence presented by each party at the hearing.

NVAR recommends comprehensive zoning changes and incentives that facilitate the voluntary market-driven production of a wide range of housing choices at all price levels to suit our diverse population, including encouraging mixed-use development.
It is essential that comprehensive plans provide for the development of owner-occupied housing, to meet existing and forecasted housing demand without unreasonable zoning and land use restrictions that lead to increased costs for housing. Updating zoning ordinances and maps to encourage mixed use with higher residential density in existing commercial areas can provide new home ownership opportunities without affecting existing residential neighborhoods.

Eligibility
Members of this committee must be an active NVAR member of at least 5 years and have served on either the Grievance Committee or Board of Directors.
