Public Policy Committee

Mission

The NVAR Public Policy Committee tracks legislative activities at all levels of government and recommends policy positions to the NVAR Board of Directors. Committee members assist in planning special annual legislative events, such as the legislative reception and the trip to the state Capitol, as well as mobilizing grassroots participation in calls-for-action on issues campaigns.

NVAR Government Affairs and the Public Policy Committee host various events throughout the year. These events are a fun way to advocate for the industry and network with peers and elected officials. From Legislative Receptions to our annual Realtor® Lobby Day each January during the General Assembly, there are plenty of opportunities to make your voice heard.

NVAR recommends comprehensive zoning changes and incentives that facilitate the voluntary market-driven production of a wide range of housing choices at all price levels to suit our diverse population, including encouraging mixed-use development.

It is essential that comprehensive plans provide for the development of owner-occupied housing, to meet existing and forecasted housing demand without unreasonable zoning and land use restrictions that lead to increased costs for housing. Updating zoning ordinances and maps to encourage mixed use with higher residential density in existing commercial areas can provide new home ownership opportunities without affecting existing residential neighborhoods.
