Standard Forms: Supporting Your Everyday Business
The NVAR Standard Forms Committee oversees the development and updates of the standardized forms used in everyday real estate transactions. The committee includes attorneys and Realtors® who contribute their knowledge and experience to ensure the forms meet the needs of real estate professionals.
The committee also works closely with NVAR Government Affairs to monitor public policy and legislation. When laws and regulations change, NVAR reviews and updates its forms to reflect applicable changes.
NVAR updates its standard forms twice a year, in January and June, to address changes in Virginia law, industry regulations, and transaction practices.
Helping You Communicate with Clients
To help Realtors® explain important contract terms to their clients, NVAR offers translated summaries of four standard forms in five languages: Spanish, Korean, Vietnamese, Simplified Chinese (PRC), and Traditional Chinese (Taiwan).
These summaries are intended to be used alongside the official forms and can help clients better understand key terms throughout the transaction process.
Legal Hotline: Guidance for Real Estate Questions
When questions arise about real estate transactions or NVAR Standard Forms, the NVAR Legal Hotline provides a resource for additional guidance.
Members can submit real estate-related questions directly to Associate Attorney, Joseph J. Russo, Jr., Esq. His extensive background includes reviewing contracts and title, and addressing complex issues that arise during real estate transactions.
In most cases, members receive a phone call within 48 business hours of submitting a question, with responses provided no later than one business day. Be sure to include an accurate phone number when submitting your request. You can submit your question(s) through nvar.com/legalhotline or the NVAR App.
