Arlington County is considering a change to its sign regulations that could ban all temporary signs in the public right-of-way — including the weekend open house directional signs many Realtors® rely on.
These signs remain an important tool for your business. They help buyers locate open houses and discover homes for sale or rent, which is especially important in Arlington’s competitive housing market.
Recently, the Arlington Planning Commission accepted a balanced compromise recommended by NVAR — Alternative A — which would reduce political and long-term signage while preserving temporary weekend directional signs for open houses and homes for sale.
However, County staff is still recommending a full prohibition. The Arlington County Board will make the final decision on Saturday, March 14.
Now is the time for Realtors® to speak up.
We encourage you to contact the Arlington County Board and ask them to follow the Planning Commission’s recommendation by supporting Alternative A and preserving weekend directional signs for open houses. Email all five members of the Arlington County Board at Countyboard@arlingtonva.us or call the main office at (703) 228-3130.
Thank you for helping protect an important tool that connects buyers with homes.
