Update in Case of Burnett v. NAR et al.

October 31, 2023

Earlier today, NAR and other corporate defendants were found liable in Burnett v. NAR et al. In this case, home-sellers in Missouri filed a class action lawsuit against NAR and various large real estate brokerages in federal court, alleging that the practice of cooperative compensation is unfair to sellers, artificially inflates real estate commissions, and violates federal antitrust law. Read about this decision here.

Despite this ruling, this is an ongoing matter. NAR has stated they have a strong legal basis for an appeal and they are committed to the best interests of consumers. For more from NAR, visit Competition.Realtor.
