1st Time: Northern Virginia Association of Realtors® CEO, Ryan McLaughlin, Named Top Residential Real Estate Industry Leader by Swanepoel Power (SP 200)

The 11th annual SP 200 reveals top residential real estate industry leaders

FAIRFAX, VA (January 10, 2024) – For the first time, Ryan McLaughlin, CEO, Northern Virginia Association of Realtors® has been named to the Swanepoel Power 200 (SP 200), the definitive ranking of the residential real estate industry's executives and leaders. This is the first time a NVAR CEO has been included on the list, and the first time an association leader from Virginia was included in the SP 200.

The following NVAR members and industry partners also made the list:

  • Mark Lowham, CEO and Managing Partner, TTR Sotheby’s International Realty
  • Donny Samson, CEO, Samson Properties
  • Danny Samson, Founder, Samson Properties
  • Joe Martin, Regional Leader, Keller Williams - Virginia, West Virginia
  • Brian Donnellan, CEO & President, Bright MLS

The 11th annual report is the industry's most respected analysis of the scope, reach and leadership of real estate executives running the nation's largest companies and organizations. To create the list, the firm T3 Sixty conducts extensive research analyzing company performance metrics, individual biographies, organization charts and discussions with industry leaders.

“I am honored to be recognized among the nation’s top leaders in residential real estate among so many of the industry’s giants,” said McLaughlin. “As the voice of residential real estate in Northern Virginia, I share this honor with NVAR’s 13,500 members who are on the front lines everyday delivering high-quality services to their clients.”

McLaughlin has been at the helm of NVAR since 2015 overseeing a 32-person staff in two locations, as well as a Realtor® school and store. He was the CEO of the Greater Lehigh Valley Realtors® in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania and was elected to the Lower Macungie Township Board of Commissioners from 2009 to 2015, serving as its President in 2015.

Currently, McLaughlin serves on the boards of directors of Bright MLS and SentriLock, as well as the Realtor.com Association Executives Advisory Board. Since 2020, McLaughlin has been included in Virginia Business magazine’s annual Virginia 500 – Power List, as one of the state’s most powerful and influential leaders. In 2015, he was named Association Executive “Leaders of Tomorrow” Young Professionals Award from the National Association of Realtors®, and inducted into its Dr. Almon R. (Bud) Smith, RCE, AE Leadership Society. He also was named one of the 2013 “40 Under 40” regional business leaders by Lehigh Valley Business.

Along with McLaughlin, this year's SP 200 list recognizes 45 newcomers, underscoring the industry's transition from baby boomers to company founders to Gen X and corporate executives.

There was also a noticeable surge in women's representation—from 47 to 53. Additionally, on this year’s Watchlist which spotlights emerging and upcoming leaders, 65 percent were women.

"The leaders featured in the SP 200 really showed what it takes to be a strong and dynamic leader in 2023,” said Jack Miller, President and CEO of T3 Sixty. “Despite facing some of the toughest challenges in their careers, they refused to pull back or back down. Instead, they embraced action, laying the foundation for innovation, expansion, and growth. These are precisely the qualities we acknowledge in the SP 200,"

The SP200’s most powerful and influential person was Ryan Schneider, president, and CEO of Anywhere Real Estate. For the past six years, Schneider has continued to strengthen the foundation of the company, landing him in the top SP 200 spot for the first time.

Reflecting the breadth of residential real estate, the rankings encompass leaders and executives from various segments. The SP 200 leaders included 110 positions representing brokerages, 31 from organized real estate, 33 representing technology companies, and 10 are from other industry sectors such as networks and educational entities.
