The Agreement Between NVAR and Asociación Peruana de Agentes Inmobiliarios (ASPAI)

03/30/2023

The Northern Virginia Association of Realtors® (NVAR) is proud to be the partner association with the Asociación Peruana de Agentes Inmobiliarios (ASPAI); the Peruvian real estate association. The Peruvian population is on average between the eighth and tenth largest nationality represented in Fairfax County.

The National Association of Realtors® (NAR) has ambassador or “bilateral” agreements and relationships with similar associations in countries all over the world. It often appoints a Global Ambassador, a Realtor® member, and a local or state association coordinator to maintain longstanding relationships and share information across borders. Global ambassadors are appointed by the NAR President to serve as their liaison to each of NAR’s Foreign Cooperation Associations. They typically are Certified International Property Specialist (CIPS) designees and have knowledge of the country’s culture and language.  Real estate looks very different in Peru compared to the United States. Our agreement provides a great opportunity to educate across borders on best practices and on how to work with clients from different countries. In September 2022, NVAR President Reggie Copeland was invited to ASPAI in Peru as a presenter. Copeland talked about exclusive listing agreements, which do not exist in Peru, the importance of education, cooperation between brokerages, and the NAR Code of Ethics. The presentation inspired the audience and represented Northern Virginia Realtors® in a very positive and professional light.

The reciprocal agreement between NVAR and ASPAI has elevated the profession in both Northern Virginia and Peru. We look forward to continuing to work with ASPAI and strengthen the international relationship we have built.
