Getting to Know Interstate - Strategic Partner Spotlight Series

by Chris Barranco

Sherry SkinnerNVAR recently had the opportunity to interview Sherry Skinner, Client Services Manager at Interstate, as part of the new Strategic Partner Spotlight Series. Learn the key takeaways from our conversation with Sherry!

1.How does working with Interstate benefit a Realtor®?

It is essential, and beneficial for your business, to give clients trusted referrals. Sherry builds relationships with NVAR members and recommends that all Realtors® develop a vendor network who can speak with their clients and present different options. Sherry helps Realtors® and their clients find trusted moving solutions with Interstate.

2. Does Interstate have a trusted reputation in Northern Virginia?

Interstate has over 80 years of experience in the moving industry within the Greater DC area, and they have developed a trusted presence both in the NVAR region and beyond. Interstate only moves with fully trained packers and loaders, ensuring that there will not be any crews who are learning on the job, protecting all items that are being moved.

Interstate started locally in 1943, and the same family (now the third generation) runs the business. In the 1970s, Interstate moved headquarters from Southwest D.C., out to Springfield.

3.  What is the scope of Interstate's Residential Moving services?

In addition to assisting with local moves, Interstate also moves clients outside of the D.C. area, across the United States and around the world. They can provide both short and long-term storage. They also move people into the greater metro area,

4. What storage options does Interstate Provide?

Sherry pointed out that Interstate has a one-of-a-kind, special decluttering program. They provide short term storage for items that Realtors® would prefer to have out of the house, in order for the house to sell quicker and for a higher value.

Storage has become more popular in this market, as many people are not moving directly from House A to House B. While clients are waiting on the house to be available, they can store items with Interstate. *Interstate is currently offering up to one-month free storage for clients experiencing this, please contact Sherry for more information.

Sherry also emphasized that occasionally, there will be a client who has to move out of the area on a special job assignment, perhaps resulting in them being out of country for a year or two. Interstate can work with clients to store items safety and securely during this time span.

5.  What separates Interstate from other moving companies?

First and foremost, Interstate conducts a visual survey, available in-person or virtually, so their professionals can assess what is going to be moved, first-hand, and then provide clients with the most accurate estimate for the move.

Additionally, as mentioned earlier, Interstate moving crews do not learn on the job. There is a training system in place to ensure movers are fully ready before hitting the field. Without this, clients can have extra costs that results from damaged items, and it also takes more time to move items if people are being trained on the job.

Sherry noted the longevity and trusted reputation of Interstate, in addition to their investments made to the local, Northern Virginia community. Interstate offers trucks for many charities, including Wreaths Across America. When working with Wreaths Across America, Interstate transports thousands of wreaths to multiple national cemeteries across the country, including Arlington. Sherry also noted Interstate's work with Afghan refugees.

6. How can someone learn more about Interstate?

Sherry can be thought of as a "moving concierge for the Realtor® community." To learn more about Interstate, simply reach out to Sherry!
