The NVAR Nominating Committee has recommended 8 candidates for inclusion on the 2022 Board of Directors ballot. There are 5 available spots for the 2022 Board of Directors. Voting opened for NVAR members on September 9 and ends on October 8.

Meet the 2022 Board of Directors candidates!

Each board candidate provided the biographical information listed below so that you can learn about who they are and why they want to serve the association.

Peter Bixby, Compass

Peter was born in Berlin, Germany, and moved back to the United States with his family when he was three years old. Northern Virginia has been his home for more than 20 years. He has lived in McLean, Fairfax Station, Springfield, and Burke, Virginia, and knows this area extremely well. His family originates from Southern California, where the Bixby family are real estate pioneers. In the past 120 years, his family has transitioned from ranching and farming to land development and real estate investment. He is carrying on the family legacy in real estate with a focus on Northern Virginia. His main focus is to support our military men and women and their families. He wants to provide them the ease of transition and relocation from their current home to their next duty station or in their retirement. Click here to view candidate profile.

Miguel Calvo, Keller Williams Fairfax Gateway

Based in Fairfax County, Miguel Calvo is a 19-year veteran of the real estate industry and has represented clients throughout Northern Virginia in over 1,000 transactions. Miguel studied Industrial Engineering at Ricardo Palma University in Peru and worked in Consumer Loans products for a local bank and also car sales. Miguel is a proud partner of Cornerstone, a nonprofit association in Reston, in their effort to help families buy and keep homes or find a safe shelter for their families. He also supports Ahome, VA Alliance, Latino Economic Development Center, and the National Association of Hispanic Real Estate Professionals. Miguel is a full-time father to his two wonderful kids. Miguel is the owner of The Calvo Group, LLC with Keller Williams and the founder and co-owner of Reliance Real Estate Investments, providing investors opportunities to buy, hold, or sell real estate. Click here to view candidate profile.

Nicole Canole, Keller Williams Capital Properties

Nicole is the CEO of East + Ivy and comes from a military background, serving eight years in the Armed Forces before becoming a financial policy analyst for the Department of Veterans Affairs Central Office in Washington, DC. She went on to open an interior design firm and became the lead stager for a nationally recognized staging company, where she developed her love for real estate. In her first year in the industry, she was recognized as her brokerage’s company-wide Rookie of the Year. She is also a member of NVAR's Top Producer’s Club and serves as leadership on various committees for NVAR. Rachel Carter, Coldwell Banker Realty

As head of Coldwell Banker's Old Town Alexandria office, Rachel manages a team of approximately 115 agents. She effectively recruits and educates local talent, helping agents build their skills and their business, and streamlines transactions to ensure outstanding results.  Alexandria continues to be the Number 1 office in Virginia for Coldwell Banker for 2020.  Rachel began her career with Coldwell Banker in 2007. She was named Rookie of the Year in 2008 and subsequently earned numerous awards for her sales performance. Rachel serves on their President's Advisory Council, co-chairs the C.B. Cares Foundation, and serves on other professional committees. Originally from Columbia, SC, Rachel graduated Cum Laude from the University of South Carolina with a bachelor’s degree in International Studies and Government. Michelle Doherty, Real Living at Home (RLAH)

Michelle jumped into real estate after graduating from Christopher Newport University in 2011. After spending nearly five years working under a large real estate team, Michelle got her license in 2015 and hasn't looked back since. After assisting in selling hundreds of homes in the D.C. Metro area, Michelle joined RLAH Real Estate. She was the 2020 chair of the NVAR RPAC and Convention Committees and is a past chair of the YPN Committee. She was also one of REALTOR Magazine's 30 Under 30 Honorees for 2019 and serves at the National Association of REALTORS® on the YPN Advisory Board and Member Policy & Board Jurisdiction Committee. Stacy Holscher, Redfin

Stacy is a supervising broker and team manager with Redfin, where she has practiced real estate since 2013. She is a 2020 NVAR Top Producer and received recognition from her brokerage nationally for her coaching and mentorship contributions. She currently serves as the chair of NVAR’s Leadership Development and Awards Advisory Group as well as the co-chair for the Grievance Committee. The proud wife of a U.S. Army Veteran and native Philadelphian, Stacy enjoys spending free time with friends and family boating on the Potomac and going on adventures with her Shiba Inu, Hoshi. Click here to view candidate profile.

Sherry Rahnama, RE/MAX Executives

Sherry is a native of Northern Virginia with over 20 years of sales and management experience. She is the Broker/Owner of four RE/MAX offices and a brokerage that is Top 500 in the country. Her brokerage was recently included in the 2020 top 25 list of largest real estate brokerages in the metropolitan area by Washington Business Journal. Sherry has been a member of NVAR for over 19 years, currently serving her second term on the NVAR Board. She also serves on the Board of Share A Cause, a nonprofit that connects members, volunteers, and corporate entities through charitable events, volunteer work, and benevolent efforts. Sherry has a passion for agent development and focuses most of her time on coaching, growth, and business development. She enjoys giving back to her industry, agents, and community. Casey Sutherland, Rosemont Real Estate

Casey was born and raised in Alexandria, Virginia. He grew up in a real estate family with his mother, a Realtor®; his father, an investor; and his brother, a landscaper. After graduating from Lynchburg College in 2012, Casey started his career at McEnearney Associates in Old Town, Alexandria, with his mom. He quickly learned the ropes and yearned for the day when he could start his own firm. In 2018, Casey started Rosemont Real Estate LLC in Virginia and Maryland. In October 2019, he married his wife, Haley. This past February, they had their first baby boy, Gunther.
