Protecting Property Rights
Protecting Property Rights
The NVAR Government Affairs program develops policy to guide the association in the legislative and regulatory arenas. We then advocate for those policy positions to protect the industry from harmful legislation that would erode private property rights, increase the costs of real estate transactions or place excessive regulations on home owners and buyers, among others.
The success of these efforts relies on individual Realtor® participation. Our Government Affairs efforts are at their strongest when Realtors® are informed, engaged and ready to act. We offer many ways for you to learn about the issues, meet with your elected officials, and participate in setting NVAR’s lobbying priorities.

Advocacy at NVAR: Together We Are Strong
Together we are strong. Stand together with your Realtor® colleagues to safeguard the real estate industry and support an environment that is friendly to buying and selling real estate. NVAR is at the forefront of educating the members, public, and elected officials to help them understand the impact of public policy and legislation on the Northern Virginia real estate industry.
NVAR provides community outreach and education, builds relationships with elected officials, and raises funds through the Realtors® Political Action Committee (RPAC) to help elect candidates who will listen to our point of view and to support or oppose key issue campaigns.

What We Do
Calls-For-Action
When critical issues arise, your Realtor® associations may call on you to contact your elected officials and advocate the industry position. Using current technology, participating in a Call-For-Action takes a few clicks and a few seconds of your time but makes an enormous difference in our advocacy efforts
Events With Elected Officials
NVAR offers several opportunities to meet elected officials in person. Join fellow NVAR members on the Legislative Trip for a day of lobbying in Richmond. Mingle with state and local officials at the Legislative Reception. Hear from a top political analyst over breakfast with our federal, state and local representatives at Politics and Pancakes. Focus on the issues impacting your neighborhood with our local Town Hall events.

NV-RPAC Campaign Committee
Our lobbying and advocacy efforts are aided by knowledgeable elected officials who understand you and your business. The Northern Virginia/Realtors® Political Action Committee helps us elect and keep Realtor®-friendly candidates in office. It also helps us promote the issues Realtors® care about. Members of the NV/RPAC Campaign Committee help educate the association membership on the candidates and issues, and raise funds for NV/RPAC to use in these efforts
Public Policy Committee
The Public Policy Committee meets monthly to discuss current issues and recommend policy positions to NVARs Board of Directors. The committee will regularly invite elected officials and policy experts to address the Committee on issues affecting the industry or the region.
Public Policy Forums
NVAR regularly schedules Policy Forums on topics of interest in the region. From real estate sign regulations to the latest redevelopment proposals, we want you to be informed.
