Virginia Housing, formerly known as VHDA, has been helping Virginians achieve the dream of affordable homeownership since 1972. As a self-sustaining, not-for-profit organization, Virginia Housing reinvests its revenues to support first-time buyers, provide rental housing financing, and fund community development.
One of its most impactful programs is the First-Time Homebuyer Loan, which offers favorable interest rates and down payment assistance. In addition, Virginia Housing provides free homebuyer education courses in English and Spanish to ensure buyers are fully informed before they purchase a home.
Virginia Housing collaborates with local governments, Realtors®, lenders, developers, and nonprofits to create affordable housing opportunities throughout the Commonwealth. Its work not only benefits individual buyers, but also strengthens neighborhoods, encourages economic mobility, and promotes long-term housing stability.
