I voted

Voters wishing to cast a mail-in ballot in the November 2, 2021 elections have until 5 p.m. on Friday, October 22 to request a ballot be sent to them. All registered voters in Virginia are eligible to vote by mail or in person. Carefully review the information below to determine applicable deadlines.

Voting by Mail

Voters wishing to cast a mail-in ballot in the November 2, 2021 elections have until 5 p.m. on Friday, October 22 to request a ballot be sent to them.

Voters may apply for a mail-in ballot online at the Department of Elections’ Citizen Portal at www.vote.elections.virginia.gov or by downloading a paper application at www.elections.virginia.gov/registration/voter-forms, filling it out, and submitting it to your local Voter Registration Office.

Forms are available in English, Spanish, Vietnamese and Korean. Application forms may be submitted to the voter’s local Voter Registration Office by mail, fax, or email.

Completed ballots must be either returned to the Office of Voter Registration & Elections by 7 p.m. on Tuesday, November 2, or postmarked by November 2 and received in the office by noon on Friday, November 5. To vote in person, an application is not required. Applications should not be submitted before voting in person.

Witness Signature Required: A witness signature is required on all mail-in ballots. If a ballot is missing a witness signature, the voter will be contacted within three days of receipt by the local voter registration office and asked to correct it. The ballot must be corrected by noon on Friday, Nov. 5 in order to be counted.

Early Voting

The deadline to vote early is Saturday, October 30, at 5 p.m.

Localities have established early voting locations in addition to the General Registrar's Office. Any voter in the locality may visit the General Registrar's Office or an early voting site to vote in person or drop off their mailed absentee ballot.
