Post Licensure for New Agents
Effective January 1, 2004, all new real estate licensees must complete 30 hours of post licensing education prior to the first renewal of their license (2 years). Any new salesperson whose license was issued on or after July 1, 2008, must complete the 30 hours of PLE WITHIN ONE YEAR of issuance of a license by the Board. Agents have a choice of three practice tracks:
- Residential real estate
- Commercial real estate
- Property management
Note: Commercial & Property mgmt are still in development and are not offered yet.
Within each 30-hour curriculum, there are mandatory topics and elective topics. Once licensees select their practice tracks, they must complete the mandatory hours within that track. Elective hours may be taken in the same track or chosen from another practice track.
NVAR offers courses in the residential real estate track only. For details on the commercial and property management tracks, contact DPOR at www.state.va.us/dpor.
